[Dxspider-support] The results are in for today (so far)

The values obtained are a consequence of spots that have not followed the ‘path’ expected by the code.
There are some spots counted that are not badspot, but that will probably be fixed. The problem is with the rest of the genuinely bad ones.

Fulvio,
Sorry for the curtness of my message. My brain operates in a very casual manner. I look to email as an extension of a conversation and can sometimes seem off-putting. Of course, I seem that way in normal conversation sometimes too.
My question was exactly what Chris described. What do the originators of the bad spots hope to gain? Why flood our very useful network with junk spots? Or, as I stated, am I misunderstanding the source of these?
If, as Dirk and Kin describe, 60% of our traffic is junk spots, then we all need to figure out what to do and how to stop the flow. As it is, my node is configured so that only registered users can post spots and registered users require a password (at least I think it is, I'm going to verify this again later today).
I appreciate all of the work done by the creators of the dx spider project and will implement any changes they suggest (as long as I can follow them) to stop the flood.
Very best to all and 73 de Kelly
KE2L

Thanks, Chris.
If you're correct, I’m surely wrong, and you can blame me! :)
But in any case, I didn’t see any signature or any sign that made it look like a proactive email.
On the other hand, your reply was kind, and I do appreciate it.
With respect, HB9DHG Fulvio

Fulvio,
I think you misunderstood Kelly's message. He was stating his comments against the providers (people creating the bad spots/abusing the network) and their possible intention of discrediting the cluster sysops, in light of the recent events with WWA and others.
Just my take...

Chris, WI3W

Kelly,
First of all, let me thank you for this email, not necessarily for its content, which I find somewhat disrespectful (there’s no greeting, no sign-off, and no courtesy), but because it gives me the opportunity to respond (and we are free to do so) to your statement.
First of all, this is a group of Sysops (or even free interested guys) who are simply trying to improve the network, investing their resources and time to provide a reliable tool, just like the cluster is.
Courtesy would have been simply asking why these "bad spots" are occurring in a polite and respectful manner. I do agree with you, "I'm misunderstanding what is going on." Yes, because here we are just analyzing the logs, which are "transparent" to the Sysops, and I’m happy that they are transparent to all those subscribed to this group.
Please feel free not to respond if you prefer. I am, like many others, using software that has given me great satisfaction, as the Linux version has even helped me grow professionally.
I don’t think we are "attempting to discredit the service." We are simply working actively to make the network more transparent. If there are doubts or questions, maybe they should be asked in a polite and respectful manner, for the sake of all parties involved.
Sorry for the outburst, but I feel better now and I hope you can calmly raise any questions in a more serene way.

What is the end game of the providers of all of the 'bad spots'?
An attempt at discrediting the service.
I will NEVER understand behavior like this, or am I misunderstanding what is going on.

The results are in:
After setting $DXProt::senderverify to 1 or 2 (hint: I have set mine to 2)
And running the following two commands:
grepdbg '\s+<-\s+I\s+GB7DJK\s+PC61' | wc -l
and
grepdbg 'bad spot ' | wc -l
and noting the numbers on a piece of paper with the first command being 'A' and the second 'B' and then doing this simple calculation:
B * 100 / A
The result I got for a morning's traffic (the natural result of a grepdbg on today's log with sendverify set) is:
60.22 (%)
Or to put it another way, most of the traffic sent today is very likely fake.
Houston, we have a problem...

PS If you have had senderverify set > 0 for all of today, you can repeat the example above by changing 'GB7DJK' to a similar node feeding yours from which you are likely to get all/most of your spots.
